Warren L. McGriff

February 6, 1959 — August 29, 2014

Warren L. McGriff, 55, of Oquawka, passed away at 4:58 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2014 in rural Henderson County, Ill.

He was born on February 6, 1959 in Burlington, Ia., the son of Charles and Melba Mason McGriff. He was raised and educated in Henderson County, Ill. Warren graduated from Union High School in 1977.

Warren married Laurie Greene in Oquawka, Ill. in 1987.

As a young man, Warren worked on the family farm. He also worked for Charlie McChesney. In 1983, he purchased his first semi from Rodney Link, a 1978 359 Pete, and together they leased to Ace Doran. Warren always dreamed of hauling equipment so he moved on to haul for Daily Transport of Carlyle, Pa., with their heavy haul division. In 1989, he purchased a brand new Peterbilt in his trademark brown color. Warren pulled anything up to 13 axle freight. Warren purchased his favorite Peterbilt in 1999 and continued to do what he did best- drive a truck. The last few years, he leased to Chad Link Trucking, RCM Transport, and finally obtained his own authority A Warren McGriff Trucking to haul equipment, logs for Link-n-Logging, grain for Mark Ford and boats for Dopher Thompson with Oquawka Boats. In 2000, Warren and Chad Link started a sandpit and sold sand for various projects in the community.

Warren had a gift for working on equipment. He loved to share his knowledge for trucking and was always willing to help a friend. Anyone that knew Warren knows that he had a special way with words A"Warrenisms".

He is survived by his mother Melba McGriff of Arkansas, three brothers; Bob McGriff of Media, Ill., Mark McGriff of Burlington, Ia., and Leo McGriff of Arkansas. Also surviving is one sister Doris McGriff of Arkansas, one nephew Brian McGriff of Mt. Pleasant, Ia.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, and uncle.
