Thomas W. Edwards

Thomas W. Edwards, 80, of Galesburg, IL, passed away at 5:57 a.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at his home.

He was born on April 8, 1940 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Vernon D. and Esther M. (Pittman) Edwards.  Tom was raised and educated in Alexis, IL and graduated from Alexis High School in 1958.

Tom married Patricia Lee in Alexis in 1958.  He later married Sonja M. Souza on July 3, 1965 in Rock Island, IL; she survives.

Tom was an aviation enthusiast and was a pilot and flight instructor for many years, working at Midway Airport in Chicago and the Galesburg Municipal Airport.  He also worked for the Illinois Dept. of Transportation for 20 years before retiring.  Tom enjoyed photography and was a member of the West Central IL Photographers.  He also liked woodworking and loved to make furniture for his children.  Tom was a member of Norwood Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, clerk of session, trustee, and the pastor nominating committee.  Most of all, Tom loved to spend time with his family.

Surviving Tom is his wife, Sonja Edwards of Galesburg, IL; four children, Kathie L. (Phil) Vroman, Julie M. (John) Price, Dan T. (Jenni) Edwards, and Jeff W. (Judy) Edwards.  Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one brother, Donald Edwards, and his beloved dog, Bella.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Robert A. Edwards.

Due to Covid-19 virus recommendations and restrictions, a private family graveside service will be at Norwood Cemetery, Alexis, IL.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Memorials can be made to Norwood Presbyterian Church.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
