Thelma J. Scott

Thelma J. Scott, 92, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 8:20 a.m., Sunday, January 14, 2018 at her Home.

She was born on January 16, 1925 in Smithshire, IL, the daughter of Edward and Marie (Anderson) Gibb. Thelma was raised and educated in Smithshire and attended the Maple Grove School and later graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1943.

Thelma married R. Wayne “Bunky” Scott on July 17, 1960 at the Westside Church in Monmouth, IL, he survives.

Thelma worked as a bookkeeper at Illinois Bankers Life Insurance Company and at Martin Motors both in Monmouth. She later worked as a sales clerk at Dotties Corner owned by her sister, Dorothy Hutchisson. Thelma was a member of First United Methodist Church in Monmouth, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Warren County Home Extension, Business and Professional Women’s Club, and Christian Woman’s organizations. Thelma volunteered for over 30 years with the Red Cross Bloodmobile. She loved to cook, garden, and spend time with her family.

Surviving Thelma is her husband, Wayne “Bunky” Scott of Monmouth; two sons, Curtis Scott of Monmouth, Tracy Scott of Macomb, IL; one grandson, Tanner Scott of Macomb, IL; brother, Keith Gibb of Stronghurst, IL; sister-in-law, Leona Gibb of Smithshire, IL, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Dorothy Hutchisson; four brothers, Eddie Gibb, Bob Gibb, Marshall Gibb, and Richard Gibb.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 18, 2018 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services and interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery at a later date. Memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church.
