Suzanne Katherine Saettler

Suzanne Katherine Saettler, 85, of Monmouth and formerly of Winona, Minnesota, passed away Friday, March 15, 2019, at Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth.

Suzanne was born on February 25, 1934, in Detroit Lakes, MN to Arthur and Susan (Blesener) Hawkinson. On August 29, 1959 she married Erhard “Dutch” Saettler and together they raised two daughters, Mary Sue and Michele.

Sue graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1952. Sue attended the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, Minnesota.  She later attended Business College and then worked as a secretary in the Chemistry Department at the University of Minnesota, where she was to meet Dutch.

They moved to Winona, Minnesota.  Once her daughters were in school, she took a position as a secretary in the development office at Cotter High School in Winona. They relocated to Monmouth in 1989. Sue was an active member of the bereavement committee at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and volunteered at the hospital gift shop. She was an avid reader throughout her life and a daily consumer of the newspaper until the end. Sue also was a crafter and loved to cross stitch.

She is survived by her husband, Dutch, of Monmouth; daughters Mary Sue (Nick) Vinci of Frankfort, Illinois and Michele (Leo) Evans of Rochester Minnesota; and four grandchildren Carter, Jonathan, George, and Janet.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Thomas Hawkinson.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Friday, March 22, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth.  No visitation is planned. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth will take place at a later date. Memorials can be made to Immaculate Conception Church or Monmouth College. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
