Stewart E. Bushong, 87, of Monmouth passed away at 2:56 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2015 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born Dec. 13, 1927 in Springfield, IL the son of Julius and Pearl (Gomez) Bushong. He was raised and educated in Oquawka, IL, graduating from Oquawka High School in 1944.
Stu served with the United States Army in both Japan and Korea.
He married Mary Louise Earp in Gladstone, IL on June 3, 1950 and she survives.
Stu was the Co-Owner and Operator of Monmouth Feed Services for over 23 years before retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Monmouth American Legion Post #136 and the Monmouth VFW Post #2301.
Survivors include his wife; children, Ed (Susan) Bushong, Patricia (Terry) Albin, Paula (Tim) Lay all of Monmouth and Brad (Debra) Bushong of Kirkwood; 8 grandchildren, Craig Bushong, Scott Bushong, Lesley Bridge, Daniel Bushong, Chad Hohner, Tricia Fischer, Brian Larson and Mary Beth Giddings; 19 Great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren Jessica Havelock and Justin Havelock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Dustin Larson; 3 sisters, Marjorie McGraw, Lucille Tinker, and Thelma Larkins; 5 brothers, Bud Turner, Bill Turner, Gerald Turner, Paul Bushong and Julius "Blackie" Bushong.
Cremation has been accorded. Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Memorials may be given to Monmouth Nursing Home, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Alzheimer's Association, and American Diabetes Association. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
