Solomon Lewis Schisler

July 12, 1923 — May 10, 2016

Solomon L. Schisler, 92, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 7:40 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at his home.

He was born July 12 1923 on the farm in Fulton, Co. IL, the son of Pearl and Mary Kathryn (Emig) Schisler. He attended Swan Creek School.

Solomon married Catherine Jean Sulteen in Kahoka, MO in 1943 and she survives.

During the war Solomon worked for Hiram Walker in Peoria, he later worked for CB & Q Railroad as a laborer. He then worked for Kistler Company in Monmouth for over 20 years before retiring. Solomon loved his community; he even decided to run for Mayor for the City of Monmouth at one time. He was a great stay at home Dad and babysitter for his grandchildren.

Solomon enjoyed gardening; he loved children, especially his grandchildren. He loved being with his family along with sitting and visiting with friends.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Schisler of Monmouth; children, Jerry (Lois) Schisler of Roseville, Vickie (George) Raymond of Monmouth and Jeff (Lori Clark) Schisler of Monmouth; 9 grandchildren, Mary Katherine Schisler, Jerry Lee (Jenny) Schisler, Jr, David Reed (Jacqueline) Schisler, Jayelyn (Bindy) Raymond, Jeremy (Gina) Raymond, Justin (Jamie) Raymond, Crystal Schisler, Kristopher Schisler and Autum Schisler; 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Also surviving are his 2 sister, Marilyn "Jo" Johnson of Monmouth and Betty (Bob) Clark of Phoenix, AZ; 1 brother, Gerald (Rida) Schisler of Monmouth; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sons, Kenneth Leroy Schisler and Solomon Lewis Schisler Jr; 6 brothers, William Schisler, Robert Schisler, Cecil Schisler, Wilbert Schisler, Donald Schisler and Charles Schisler and 1 sister, Dorothy Griffin

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday morning at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth where his family will be present from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Memorials may be given to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
