Shelby J. Pierce

Shelby J. Pierce, 74, of Monmouth died at 8:06 P.M. Thursday, January 22, 2015 at her home. She was born August 21, 1940 in Du Quoin, IL, and is the daughter of Jacob and Loretta Hayes Morganthaler. Shelby was raised and educated in Christopher, IL and graduated from Christopher High School in 1957. Shelby married Ronald H. Pierce on November 29, 1958 and he preceded her in death on November 28, 1995. She was a homemaker. Shelby enjoyed quilting and river boating. She was a member of the Fairview Center United Methodist Church. Shelby is survived by her children; Melody (Jay) Creighton of Monmouth, Jim (Kris) Pierce of Cameron, IL, Deborah "DeeDee" Starkey of Florida, and Valarie (Kurk) Gaskill of Monmouth. Grandchildren; Samantha Hendrix, Jacob Hendrix, Alexis Hendrix, Andrea Hendrix, Tana Pierce, Alicia Pierce, Karissa Pierce, Shaylon Starkey, Zachariah Starkey, Joslin Starkey, Brandton Starkey, Kalvin Gaskill and Dalton Gaskill. Also surviving is one brother Roy "Bud" (Esther) Morganthaler. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister Brenda Pierce. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 26, 2015 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Friends may call after Noon on Sunday at the Funeral Home where her family will be present from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Beacon of Hope Hospice.
