Sam Sjeklocha

Sam Sjeklocha, 96, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 6:55 a.m., Monday, January 18, 2016, at Legacy Estates in Monmouth.

He was born on March 10, 1919 in Woodward, IA, son of Luka and Anna (Dominoski) Sjeklocha. Sam was raised and educated in the Des Moines area and graduated from Sheldahl High School in 1937.

Sam married Dorothy M. Duhn in Des Moines, IA, on November 13, 1943. She preceded him in death on December 7, 2004.

Sam farmed most of his life. He worked as a plant manager for Berkley Fishing in Emmetsburg, IA for a time, following his retirement he enjoyed handyman work, painting, gardening, and helping his family whenever needed. He was an avid baseball fan, and loved the New York Yankees. Sam enjoyed fishing, playing on a number of bowling leagues, spending time with his family, and attending his grandchildren's events.

Sam is survived by his daughter Cathy (Ed) Robinson of Cameron, IL, grandchildren; Aaron (Miriam Paris) Robinson of Dahinda, IL, Kristin Robinson of Chicago, IL, Adam (Brooke) Robinson of Monmouth, and great granddaughters; Ellie and Emma Robinson. Also surviving are three sisters; Margaret (Gus) Baumeister of Des Moines, Beverly Evans of Toledo, OH, Shirley Plimmer of Des Moines, brothers-in-law; Raymond (Evonne) Duhn, Richard (Harriet) Duhn, sisters-in-law; Betty (Jim) Kane, Rosalie Hoyt, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2016, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Monmouth. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to Strom Center in Monmouth, Galesburg Rescue Mission, or the YMCA Youth Softball Program.
