R. Richard Millar, 71, of Rozetta, IL, passed away at 11:05 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2019 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.
Richard was born August 25, 1947 in Burlington, IA, the son of Robert K. and Madelyn E. (Alecock) Millar. He attended the Rozetta Grade School, Biggsville Middle School, and graduated from Union High School in 1965. Richard then attended Eureka College and later Midstate College in Peoria, earning his business degree.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1967 till 1973. He served on the USS Ranger during the Vietnam War.
Richard married Anne E. Gunderson on June 21, 1969 in Washington, IL and she passed away on March 18, 2008. He later married Marsha Sutter on July 7, 2010 in Groveland, IL, she survives.
Richard farmed near Rozetta since 1976. He also worked for IDOT Highway Maintenance, retiring in 2015. Richard was a member of the Monmouth VFW Post 2301. He served as the Rozetta Township Clerk for a time. Richard was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, enjoyed collecting guns, his dogs, traveling, classic cars, and gambling.
Richard’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Fresenius Kidney Care of Monmouth for all their help and care over the last year.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha of Rozetta, IL; his daughter, Kristi Ann (Jarrod) Hippen of Monmouth, IL; grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Hippen and Troy Stuart Hippen both of Monmouth, IL. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Dorothy Wilson of Roanoke, IL; his loyal companion, Fritz; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Anne Millar.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2019 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be in Rozetta Cemetery, Rozetta, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
