Robert L. “Bob” Trego, Jr, 74, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 11:13 am, Sunday, March 6, 2022, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth, IL.
Bob was born January 9, 1948, in Chicago Heights, IL the son of Robert Leroy Sr. and Elizabeth Jean (Stewart) Trego. He was raised and educated in Abingdon, IL.
Bob was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of the United States Army ¾ Calvary as a tank driver and served from 1966-1968. While in Vietnam Bob was the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts. In October 2019 Bob had one of his most treasured experiences when he got to take the Honor Flight to Washington, DC.
Bob married Barbara Jean Buck on September 16, 1972, in Galesburg, IL and she survives.
Bob worked for Gates Rubber in Galesburg, Farmland in Monmouth and Caterpillar in East Peoria. He was very handy with his hands and mechanically inclined and could do anything.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Cubbies, Bears and the Fighting Illini. Bob was always proud to watch his children and grandchildren in all of their activities.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Trego of Monmouth; his children, Angela Lynn (Scott) Miller of Canton, IL, Eugene Buck Trego of Florida, Brandy Lee Trego of Canton, IL, and Beauman Scot (Nicole) Trego of Monmouth; his grandchildren, Nathan Miller, Caleb Miller, Ian Pierce, Kaylee (Ryan) Farmer, Logan Trego and Tanner Trego; his sister, Jackie (Bill) Davis of Roseville, Il; his brother, James Hopkins of Abingdon, IL and his aunt, Dorothy Lober of Blandinsville, IL; his sister-in-law, Carol Trego of Abingdon, IL; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Larry Trego and Richard Trego; 1 nephew, Ronnie Trego.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday, March 13, 2022 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family interment with Military Honors will take place at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Memorials may be given to the Quad Cities Honor Flight and sent to the funeral home.
