Robert A. “Bob” Corrigan, 85, of Oneida, IL, formerly of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 2:28 pm, Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL.
Bob was born April 11, 1934 in Chicago, IL the son of Arthur and Ethel (Morefield) Corrigan. He was raised and educated in Monmouth.
Bob served with the United State Army from 1953-1956 as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. During his time in the service he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Parachutist Badge, the Regimental United Citation and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also a Qualified Jumpmaster.
Bob married Marlene Yeager in Galesburg, IL on Aug. 19, 1959. They later divorced.
Following his service, Bob worked as a sales clerk for Black Brothers Hardware and Alton Box, both in Galesburg. He later worked for Admiral-Maytag Corp as a forklift operator for 34 years before retiring in 1992.
He was a NASCAR Die-Cast Dealer for 15 years and attended numerous shows throughout the Midwest. Bob was best known for his passion of classic cars and “Hot Rods”. He was the director for several car shows and cruise-ins around Knox County. While living in Monmouth he was one of the founding members of the “Dragon Coolies” Car Club of Monmouth.
Bob enjoyed National Motorcycle Racing on mile tracks, taking his grandsons to World of Outlaws Sprint Car Races and the old classic western movies.
Survivors include his daughter, Valorie Frisby of Queen Creek, AZ; son, Kevin Corrigan of Oquawka, IL; two grandsons, Brandon Frisby of Mesa, AZ and Carl (Lindsay) Corrigan of Victoria, IL; one granddaughter, Kasey (Jeff) Burnett of Queen Creek, AZ; three great grandchildren, Drake and Jayde Burnett of Queen Creek, AZ, Amelia Corrigan of Victoria, IL; and his longtime companion and who he shared his home with, Mary Anne Mundy of Oneida, IL.
He was preceded in death by his mother and son, Michael Corrigan, and daughter-in-law, Lena Corrigan.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January, 13, 2020 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Visitation will be prior to the service from Noon-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Memorials may be given to the Knox County Animal Rescue or Guardian Angels Humane Society.
