Robert Leon Morris, 72, of Monmouth, IL passed away peacefully at 11:39 am, Monday, February 7, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.
Leon was born December 26, 1949, in Media, IL the son of Floyd Robert and Mary Louise (Tracy) Morris. He was raised and educated in Galesburg, IL.
Leon married Tina Tarter on March 17, 1983, he later married Mary Jane Jones on July 29, 2006, in East Galesburg, IL and she survives.
Leon worked for the Knoxville Schools District before becoming a professional truck driver driving for several local companies including Gunther’s and Sharkey’s, before retiring in 2010.
He was a member of the Monmouth Eagles Club and the Galesburg Moose Club. He was a member of the Knoxville Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years. He enjoyed watching his wrestling, westerns and listening to country music. He also enjoyed camping, dancing and day trips to see family.
Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Mary Jane Morris of Monmouth; his 6 children, Lisa Mammenga, Kathy (Aaron) Ennis, Jamie (Mike) Edwards, Leon Morris, Stephen (Casey) Morris and Matt (Alisha) Morris; 4 stepsons Terry Clark, Michael Clark, Randall Clark and Charles Clark; 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren numerous step-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Phil (Cindy) Morris, “Smokey” (Mary) Morris, Lawrence (Brenda) Morris, Sue (Daniel) Sargeant, Sarah Kasparie and Carol Bohanan; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Karen (Mike) Taylor; 2 brothers, Roger Morris and Rick Morris; and his 2 sisters, Joyce Reading and Judy Davis; his step grandson, Waylon Clark.
Cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the American Legion in Knoxville, IL. The family is planning a potluck style meal and you are welcome to bring a dish to share. Memorials may be given to the Leon Morris Memorial Fund and sent to the funeral home.
