Robert L. Damewood

Robert L. Damewood, 79, of Kewanee, IL died at 8;20 pm. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at OSF St. Luke Medical Center, Kewanee.

He was born June 5, 1936 in Monmouth, IL the son of Roy and Hazel (Ketchum) Damewood. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1955.

Bob worked for GTE as a cable splicer, lineman and later as the office manager for GTE's northern Illinois territory retiring in 1993 after 35 years of service. He also owned and operated Damewood Construction for several years. Most recently Bob worked in the grounds and maintenance department at Blackhawk East Community College in Kewanee. Bob raised and showed Arabian Show Horses for several years.

Bob enjoyed his horses, playing golf and attending the many events of his grandchildren.

Survivors include his son, Jason (Mindy) Damewood of Monmouth; daughters, Kim (Barry) Schmidt of Bloomington, IL and Cindy (Jim) Roe of Thornton, CO; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; significant other, Gloria Anderson of Sterling, IL; 2 brothers, Carl (Mary) Damewood and George (Cheryl) Damewood both of Summerfield, FL; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Harold Damewood and John Damewood; 1 sister, Sarah Schaeffer.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2016 at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Blackhawk College East Foundation Equestrian Fund.
