Robert G. Carner, 93, of Rozetta, IL, passed away at 4:15 p.m., Monday, March 12, 2018 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL.
He was born on August 24, 1924 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Edward C. and Grace Ann (Scott) Carner. Robert was raised and educated in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1942. He then attended Western Illinois University.
Robert married Emma Jean Thompson on February 14, 1953 in Monmouth, she survives.
Robert farmed in Warren and Henderson Counties all of his life. He was one of the first Deer Hunting Outfitters in the State of Illinois. Robert was a member of First Christian Church in Monmouth, where he served as a Deacon. He also served on the Warren/Henderson Co. Farm Bureau Board of Directors, FS Board of Directors, and was a member of the A. Lincoln Masonic Lodge # 518 in Kirkwood. Robert enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing golf. He was a private pilot. Robert liked doing ground work, building ponds, and raising catfish. He raised livestock and was very active in land conservation, always working to improve the land around him.
Surviving Robert is his wife, Emma Jean Carner of Rozetta, IL; four children, Janine (Mike) Todd of Rozetta, IL, Lawrence (Suzanne) Carner of Centerton, AR, Kathryn (Kevin) Flatt of Monmouth, and Betty (Brad) Martin of Monmouth. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jamie (Andrea) Martin, Justin (Hilary) Martin, Cody (Lynn) Flatt, Chase (Katey) Flatt, Michael (Amanda) Carner, Daniel Carner; nine great grandchildren; Lincoln, Reese, Tate, Kennedy, Connor, Jack, Braxton, Chesney, Keaton; sister-in-law, Eunice Carner of Monmouth, IL; nephew, John Carner; and niece, Linda Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Lawrence Carner, Donald Carner, James Carner; and nephew, Paul Carner.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 17, 2018 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:00a.m.-1:00p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church of Monmouth or the Paul Carner Fly-In Memorial.
