Richard L Selby

Richard L. Selby, 75, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 11:45 am, Sunday, October 13, 2019 at his home.

Richard was born May 14, 1944 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Raymond and Adeline (Dunbar) Selby.  He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School, Automotive Technical School, Chicago and later Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg.

Richard served 4 years in the United States Navy.

Richard married Rita Lester in Monmouth at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on May 9, 1969 and she survives.

Richard owned and operated the Sunoco Gas Station in Monmouth for several years.  He later was a sales associate at Auto Zone in Monmouth for 20 years.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth.  He enjoyed playing cards with family, genealogy, visiting with his nephew Eric (Tracy) Mackey and working.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Selby of Monmouth; sister in law Patricia Selby of Monmouth; his Godchildren, E. Thomas Neal and Jenna Tatman-McDonald and a host of nieces and nephews.  He was particularly loved by his great nephews and nieces; Isaac and Maya Mackey, Nora and Connor McDonald.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lowell Selby.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth.  Visitation will be Wednesday morning beginning with a rosary service at 10:00 am followed by the visitation until 11:00 am. Memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Church, Monmouth.
