Rex Allen William Harwood, 67, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 8:05 p.m., Sunday, September 10, 2017 at his home.
He was born on April 1, 1950 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of George Allen and Dollie Jean (Logsdon) Harwood. He was raised and educated in Warren County and attended Warren High School.
Rex served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1967-1971.
He married Angela Gurley in 1973; she preceded him in death on October 11, 1990.
Rex worked as a handyman for many years. He loved spending time with his family and friends, was a wonderful artist, and enjoyed drinking his beer.
Surviving Rex are his three children; Anthony Allen (Becky Spitzig) Harwood, Rexanna Munson, Timothy “BooBoo” (Tamera) Harwood all of Monmouth, and five grandchildren; Brandon Munson, Danah Munson, Tyler Harwood, Austin Harwood, and Angela Harwood. Also surviving are three sisters; Sue Ann Vestal of Monmouth, Thelma Cantrell of Galesburg, IL, Linda (Dale) Hall of Monmouth, two brothers; Terry (Marsha) Neal of Monmouth, Jim (Rita) Neal of Abingdon, IL, one aunt, Carol Willey of Macomb, IL, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Charles Gurley, and step father, James E. “Ernie” Neal.
Cremation rites have been accorded. No visitation or services are planned at this time. A private family interment in Haynes Cemetery will be at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Rex A. Harwood Memorial Fund and left at the Funeral Home. McGuire and Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
