Raymond K. Bruyn, 83, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 2:24 p.m., Thursday, December 3, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.
He was born on October 12, 1937 in Lenox Township, Warren County, IL, the son of Earl and Clara (Skidmore) Bruyn. He was raised and educated in rural Warren County, he graduated from Monmouth High School in 1955.
He married Elizabeth “Betty” Mills on March 26, 1955 in Burlington, IA; she survives.
Ray first worked for John Deere Monmouth in the parts department, he then worked for the Warren County Highway Department for 21 years, and later the Kistler Company for 25 years until his retirement. Ray was an avid reader, he enjoyed reading history and Civil War books. He enjoyed being outdoors and lending a helping hand to his neighbors. He was a member of the Monmouth Evening Lions Club, he was awarded the Lions of Illinois Foundation Fellow, a member of the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth, and was a Cub Scout Leader for a time. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving Ray is his wife, Betty Bruyn of Monmouth, IL; Terry (Shari) Bruyn of Findlay, IL, Kathy L. (Hal) Tate of Monmouth, IL, Debbie (Brian) Crawford of Pocatello, ID; his grandchildren, Chelsea Budowsky, Dirk Bruyn, Pete Bruyn, Gentry Tate, Aaron Tate, Katie Tate, Zach Torres, Allison Torres, Peyton Torres; his great grandchildren, Sydney Tate, Cally Tate, Grant Tate, Andrew Tate, Jackson Tate, Addison Tate, Riley Torres, Taylor Torres, McKenna Ford, Paisley Ford, Lane Ford, Cameron West, Blakely Budowsky, and Bailor Budowsky. Also surviving is one sister, Francis Armstrong of San Diego, CA, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Geraldine Alecock; two brothers, Lawrence Bruyn and John E. Bruyn.
A private family funeral service will be at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, IL. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the funeral home, the family will not be present. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Western Illinois Animal Rescue, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or First Lutheran Church on Monmouth. Due to Covid-19 Restrictions, all attendees are required to wear a mask and social distance.
