Nancy J (Conway) Gunter

Nancy J. Gunter, 91, of rural Kirkwood, IL passed away at 6:10 pm, Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Courtyard Estates, Monmouth, IL.

Nancy was born June 3, 1930 in Peoria, Il the daughter of Verne C. and Hester Anna (Dalton) Conway.  She was raised and educated in Kirkwood, Il graduating from Kirkwood High School and later attended Western Illinois University.

Nancy married William J. Gunter, Sr. on September 17, 1949 at the Kirkwood United Methodist Church and he passed away on February 21, 2007.

Nancy was a homemaker and mother. She loved her family and her church, and she was very active in the Kirkwood United Methodist Church where she was a member and had been a Sunday school teacher and a member of the United Methodist Women. Her other activities included being a junior and senior 4-H leader and being part of the OSF Holy Family Medical Center Auxiliary.  She was also a member of the Warren County Home Extension Group.

Survivors include her children, Anna (Lewis) Kaplan of Rockford, IL; Jim (Sandy) Gunter of Kirkwood, IL and Nancy (John Hardesty) Roche of Kirkwood, Il; her grandchildren, Jonathon (Jeanine) Kaplan, David Kaplan, Sarah (Kosta) Kaplan, Kristi (Dan) Green, Julie (Lance) Snodgrass, Ryan (Kourtney) McClure and Erin (Brian) Grondin; her great grandchildren, Payton & Grayson Kaplan, Sophia Kaplan, Emma & Abigail Green, Rowyn Snodgrass, Levi & Macy McClure and Alexandria Grondin; her sister, May Ann Harvey, brothers, Clint Conway and Michael (Sue) Conway; sister in law, Doris (Harold) Young; brothers in law, Don Gunter and Carroll (Nina) Gunter; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brother, Hayes Conway and several other relatives.

Nancy’s family would like to thank Carrie and the staff at Courtyard Estates in Monmouth for their infinite love and support to Nancy and her family during the past eight years.  Thank you, Hospice Compassus staff for all the support to Nancy, Jim and Sandy.  Also, thank you to the church family of the Kirkwood United Methodist Church and to our family and friends. The family would also like to express their appreciation to GHAS and the ED staff at OSF Holy Family, OSF St. Mary and Cottage Hospitals for their compassion and care.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, September 2, 2021 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, Il.  Interment will be at Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood, IL.  Visitation will be from 12:30-2:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be given to the Kirkwood United Methodist Church Women or the OSF Holy Family Medical Center Auxiliary.   For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com.
