Mildred "Millie" L (Hewitt) Crookham

Roseville

Mildred L. Crookham, 98, of Roseville, IL passed away at 3:00 pm, Friday, April 9, 2021 at the Roseville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Roseville, IL.

Millie was born July 20, 1922 in Monmouth, IL the daughter of William and Mary Theresa (Maney) Hewitt.  While growing up in Monmouth with her “Uncle” John Kinney, Millie attended Harding Elementary School and Monmouth High School.

Millie married Willard Blaine Barr in Kahoka, MO on August 15, 1940.  She later married George Kenneth Crookham in Monmouth, IL on September 30, 1977 and he passed away on October 13, 1996.

Millie assisted with the family-owned Lyle Barr and Son Meat Processing in Little York for many years.  She also helped operate the Cub Café in Monmouth.  She later worked as a secretary for the Little York and Yorkwood School Districts.  She became a bookkeeper for the Model Clothing Store in Monmouth.  She also was a waitress in cafés and restaurants in the Roseville area.  After marrying George, she assisted in running the C & H Service Station in Smithshire. Millie worked hard her entire adult life.

She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Smithshire Methodist Church.

While raising her family, she and Blaine enjoyed going dancing and spending many hours at their cabin on the river near Oquawka where many fish tales were nurtured. Following her retirement, Millie and George enjoyed traveling the country and abroad visiting family and friends.

While a resident at the Roseville Rehab and Health Care Center, Millie walked endlessly, logging many miles and enjoying the company of the employees and other residents there.  She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her 2 sons, E. Terry (Jeanne) Barr of Roseville, Il and Gregory E. (Michelle) Barr of Mobile, AL; her grandchildren, Brian Barr, J.C. Barr, Damon Barr, Matt Barr, Mercedes  Komorowski, Gunner Barr, Trevor Barr, Carrie Lansing and Zachary Barr; 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 daughters, Linda L. Barr and Sherry L. Ekstrom; 1 son, Rolland W. Barr; 1 grandson, Brad Barr and 3 sisters.

Cremation has been accorded with a private family interment in Ellison Cemetery, Smithshire, Il to take place at a later date. At Millies request, no visitation or services are planned.  Memorials may be given to the Roseville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center and sent to the funeral home.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
