Melba Jane (Brown) Skinner

Melba Jane Brown Skinner, 87, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 9:58 am Friday, April 13, 2018 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth.

Melba was born February 26, 1931 in Monmouth, IL the daughter of John and Dorothy (Bell) Brown. She was raised and educated in Monmouth, and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1949.

She married Edward A. “Eddie” Skinner in Monmouth, IL on November 9, 1950 and he passed away on April 24, 2015.

Melba was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her six children.  She worked for a time as an assistant manager at Kmart in Monmouth, before retiring. Melba was member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society.  She enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting and baking.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary, Celeste, Celinda (Vincent), and Emily (Timothy) and her sons, Gregory and Brian. Melba has ten grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Church, Monmouth.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2018 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, with a Rosary service beginning at 4:45 p.m.  Cremation rites will be accorded following the Mass.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth.  Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Immaculate Conception School.
