Mavis Anna Henderson, 78, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 7:13 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2021, in her home.
Mavis was born November 7, 1942 in Osseo, Wisconsin, the daughter of Alvin F. and Esther (Miller) Henderson. Mavis was an extremely happy and bright little girl, a joy to all who met her. At the age of 6 she contracted polio, which would forever impact her life. Always a strong-willed child, she worked hard to overcome her handicaps.
She enjoyed gardening with her parents, fruits and vegetables were always in abundance at their home as well as many beautiful flowers. She quilted with her mother and spent many hours embroidering. She loved her Lord and was a member of the Methodist Church.
Mavis had lived in Wisconsin, Nebraska and Illinois. Following her parent’s death, she moved from Roseville to the Warren Achievement Center in Monmouth where she received training and support. She was given the opportunity to do paid work, develop new skills, but most importantly she found a new family to embrace and love her. Her hobbies at Warren Achievement included; bowling, embroidery, coloring and listening to Lawrence Welk.
Surviving Mavis are 3 nephews, 1 niece, 3 grandnieces, 1 grandnephew, 3 great-grandnieces and 3 great-grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ray and his wife Elgie and her sister Ruth.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Mavis’ life will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, September 27, 2021 at the Warren Achievement Center 1314 S. Main Street, Monmouth, IL. Private interment will take place in Linwood Cemetery, Pana, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Warren Achievement. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
