Mary L. Way

Mary L. Way. 91, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 8:30 a.m., Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Monmouth Courtyard Estates.

She was born November 18, 1925 in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of Everett and Mildred (Faulkner) Adams. She graduated from Galesburg High School and attended Knox College. She was the first bookkeeper at Warren School. She then went on to work for Stockland FS as a bookkeeper.

Mary married Earl Way on June 15, 1945 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2013.

She was a member and past president of the Monmouth American Legion Post #136 Auxiliary, a member of the Monmouth VFW Post #2301 Auxiliary and the OSF Holy Family Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Coldbrook Christian Church.

Mary and Earl enjoyed their cabin on the Mississippi River and wintering at their place in Naples, FL. She enjoyed working on her word search booklets and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her three children, Geary (Dory) Way, Diane (Larry) Hippen and Anita Fillman all of Monmouth. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and one brother, Richard Adams.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son in law, Joe Fillman; two sisters, Nell Knowles and Cecile Adams.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 28, 2017 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory in Monmouth. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 Saturday morning at the Funeral Home. A private family interment will take place in Mosher Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Monmouth American Legion Post #136 Auxiliary or the Coldbrook Christian Church.
