Mary Frances Miller, 90, of Monmouth, passed away April 30, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, after having lived independently well past her 90th birthday.
She was born July 16, 1925 in Monmouth to Harry and Zelma (Robb) Lister. She is survived by her two sons, Robb (Sylvia) Miller of Springfield, Todd Miller of Monmouth; seven grandchildren, Erik (Shyla) Lyons of Springfield, Susan Miller of Bozeman, MT, Eric (Annie) Miller of Little York, Alanna Miller of Monmouth, Colby (Heidi Pearce) Miller of Oquawka, Ryan (Danielle) Miller of Gladstone, and Katelyn (B.J. Billings) Miller of Burlington; twelve great-grandchildren, and daughters-in-law Linda Miller of Oquawka and Deb Miller of Galesburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Tim Miller, and her ex-husband, Robert Miller.
Mary Frances was a Monmouth High School graduate and attended Monmouth College during WW II. Over the years, Mary Frances served as a director of the Mellinger Foundation, the YMCA, the United Way, Monmouth College's Alumni board and the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation Service. She has been the president of the YMCA and United Way boards as well. Both the Monmouth Chamber of Commerce and the Altrusa Club have previously honored her as Citizen of the Year.
Mary Frances loved to garden and was a voracious reader. She enjoyed traveling, taking multiple trips to England, Mexico, South America and the Galapagos Islands. Mary Frances was also a dedicated supporter of Monmouth College, the Warren County Y.M.C.A, and the Jamieson Community Center.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at McGuire and Davies Funeral Home, Monmouth at 5:00 PM on Saturday, May 7, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Warren County United Way, 1107 West Broadway, Monmouth, IL, 61462.
