Marian Mills

Marian Mills, 91, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 1:37 pm Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.

She was born in Monmouth, Illinois, on September 19, 1926, to William W. and Phoebe (Powell) Thompson. She grew up in Monmouth, attended area schools, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1944. She graduated from Monmouth College and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.

She married Donald H. Armstrong on December 20, 1946. They had two children.She later married Donald W. Mills on March 23, 1967, who preceded her in death on January 2, 2015.

Marian was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church. She was one of the first teachers at Warren Achievement School and taught there for 20 years, touching the lives of many special students. After retiring in 1981, she worked as a substitute teacher in area schools. She spent many years as a hospital auxiliary volunteer, including serving as President of the CMC Hospital Auxiliary. She also served on the United Way Board and as Chairman of Warren Achievement Center Board.

Marian was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling throughout the USA and internationally. But, her passion was spending time with her friends and family. She had mastered the art of spoiling grandchildren.

Marian is survived by two children, Donald (Sandra) Armstrong and Lynn (John) Biggs, two grandchildren, Jason (Ellen) Haynes and Rachel (Ryan) Oehlert, one great-grandchild, Kiera Haynes and one niece, Carol Jane (Thompson) Moore Painter.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and brother, Harold G. Thompson.

Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 12, 2018 at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Visitation will be 5:00-6:30 p.m., Thursday, January 11, 2018 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Memorials can be left to OSF Holy Family Medical Center Auxiliary.
