Marcelyn “Marcy” Miller, 90, of Monmouth, IL died Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Courtyard Estates of Monmouth, IL. She was born on November 10, 1924 in Henderson County, Oquawka, the daughter of John Carl and Bessie Edith (Radmacher) Meyer. Marcy attended Liberty grade school in Rozetta Township. She graduated from Biggsville High School in 1941. She attended the College of Commerce in Burlington, Ia. until she accepted a bookkeeping position at the Farm Service Company in Stronghurst. She also worked for Illinois Bankers Life Assurance Co. in Monmouth in the Accident and Health Department and at Thompson Motor Sales. She married Eugene ‘Gene’ Miller on June 16, 1946 on the Meyer family farm near Rozetta. They farmed in Lenox Township until they retired in 1996. She loved her home, her family and the country life. She was always a supportive helpmate of Gene, the latter twenty years she kept records for her his crop insurance business. They were leaders of the 4-H club of Lenox Township. Marcy joined the United Presbyterian Church (now United Methodist) in Oquawka, IL at an early age and taught Sunday school classes. She transferred to the Fairview Center United Methodist Church where she was an active member for many years. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Elementary Superintendent, Director of the Daily Vacation Bible School, Trustee of the Church and on various church committees. She was an active charter member of the Grow and Glow class, and of the Ladies’ Aid and The Women’s Missionary Society. She served as General Chairman as the three missionary circles were formed. She also held the office of president of the Esther Circle and Ruth Circle. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Chapter and exemplar chapter (Xi Gamma Chi) of Beta Sigma Phi. Marcy was a devoted wife to Gene, mother to her children Kevin and Kim and her grandchildren. She also cared for her mother, Bessie Meyer in her home for 8 years until her death in 1989 at age 99. For the past three years she has enjoyed spending time with her friend Steve Ohler. Marcy enjoyed music, poetry, antiques, reading, genealogy, and traveling. Surviving Marcelyn is one son, Kevin Miller of Oquawka, IL, one daughter, Kim Cridelich (Steve) of Wisconsin, six grandchildren; Joe Dixon (Kendra) of Dunfermline, IL, Ryan Dixon of Marquette Heights, IL, Erin Elliott (Doug) of Cameron, IL, Brock Miller of Biggsville, IL, Seth Cridelich (Erica) of Port Orchard, WA, Abbe Cridelich of Wisconsin, four great grandchildren; Lily and Ella Dixon and Miller and Huntley Elliott, one sister-in-law Pauline Shoemaker of Monmouth, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, Glen Meyer; one sister, Ruth Shauman; three brothers-in-law: Lawrence, John and William Miller; one daughter-in-law, Becky Miller and one nephew, James Higbee. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Fairview Center United Methodist Church, Monmouth. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2015 at Fairview Center United Methodist Church. Memorials can be made to the A. Eugene & Marcelyn Miller Scholarship Fund. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, is in charge of the arrangements.
