Madge E. Stevens, age 85, of Monmouth, passed away at 9:34 a.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Ill.

She was born on October 15, 1928 in Raritan, Ill., and was the daughter of Forrest F. and Grace M. Hunt Burkett. Madge was raised and educated in Monmouth and attended Monmouth schools.

Madge married Jack L. Stevens on October 15, 1945 in Monmouth.

Madge was the manager at Woolworths luncheonette in Monmouth for a time. She then owned her own restaurant, Stevens Grill in Monmouth. Later she worked at Admiral in Galesburg, Ill. She was also a homemaker.

Madge was a long time member at Immanuel Baptist Church in Monmouth. She enjoyed needle arts, crocheting, and genealogy, tracing ancestry back to before the Irish potato famine.

Madge is survived by her husband Jack Stevens of Monmouth; children Nancy (Greg) Fox of Kentucky, Mary Osborn of Gerlaw, Ill., and Ed (Lynette) Stevens of Sycamore, Ill.; 7 grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Stevens, Beth (Carl) Ragland, Laura Fox, Paula (Lou) Contey, Dustin (Autumn) Stevens, Jenna (Bruce) Bibb, and Julia Stevens, and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Jack Stevens Jr. and Dennis Steven; two brothers, Richard Burkett and Don Burkett; and two sisters, Doris Burrows and Betty Anderson.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, 1007 North G St., Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. Friends may call Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home where her family will be present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. In memory of Madge, memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
