Lucretia A. "Lu" Mattson

Lucretia A. “Lu” Mattson, 58, of Oquawka, IL, passed away at 8:20 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL.

She was born on September 21, 1958 in Kirksville, MO the daughter of Earl Junior and Arlene (Karhoff) Swearingen. She was raised and educated in Abingdon, graduating from Abingdon High School in 1976.

Lu married Bob Mattson at the Henderson County Covered Bridge on October 4 1997 and he survives.

Lu was a mixologist, who never knew a stranger and was a friend of many at several establishments in Oquawka. She also worked at the Tree Nursery for Willet Wandell in Oquawka.

She enjoyed gardening, flowers, being outside, raising and canning vegetables and assisting at Slagle’s Farm in Oquawka.

Survivors include her husband, Robert “Bob” Mattson of Oquawka; daughter, Nicole L. Ginther of Cameron, IL; son, Beau R. Aplin of Galesburg; four grandchildren, her mother, Lydia Swearingen of Galesburg; sisters, Lecia D. Simpson of Altona, IL, Terri L. Swearingen and Jenny Hyman both of Galesburg, Karla R. (Ron) Ward of Wataga, IL; her brother, Ed. E. (Belinda) Swearingen of Abingdon, Il; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Mattson Family Home, 1425 Township Rd. 2350 N, Oquawka, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Belmont Cemetery in Henderson County with Rev. Jim Bennett officiating. Memorials can be made to the Lu Mattson Memorial Fund. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, is in charge of the arrangements.
