Louis “Lou” Geatan Lapointe, 72, of Monmouth, IL, passed away April 26, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.

Lou was born March 31, 1950 in Iroquois Falls Ontario, Canada to Gerard and Marie (Fontaine) Lapointe. He grew up in Hoyle Ontario, Canada. Lou married Suzanne (Bouvier) in 1968 in Timmons Ontario, Canada. During their 32 years of marriage, they enjoyed camping and salmon fishing with their two daughters. He worked as a miner in the gem mines of Elliott Lake Ontario Canada until the mines closed 1996.

Lou came to the United States in 1998 where he worked in mineral mines in Montana and as a handyman at Beartooth Ranch and developed a love for hunting.

Lou married Carol (Waters) in 2012 in Columbus, Montana. They moved to Illinois in 2013 where he worked as a handyman for four years.

Lou was proud to have become a US citizen on April 23, 2015 as well as having played Santa for 50 years.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Carol, brothers Jean-Claude (Elizabeth) Lapointe and Mike (Shyma) Lapointe, sisters Diane (Dave) Gordon and Linda (Sue) Lapointe, daughters Angelle Lapointe and Lynn Middleton, and step-children Ranae Roberts, Nanette Shepard, Kenyon (Tracey) Shepard, Kandi (Bill) Walker, Carissa (Jon) Hanson, Kathy (Gary) Good, JD VanBlaracom, and Jay (Sharon) VanBlaracom, 40 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents, brother (Louis), sister-in-law (Wanda Castrey), and son-in-law (Andrew Middleton).

Lou gave the gift of life and was an organ and tissue donor with the Gift of Hope.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 2, 2022 at the First Christian Church, Monmouth, IL.  Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Louis Lapointe Memorial Fund.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.
