Lois Marie Appleby, 94, of Galesburg, IL formerly of Monmouth, IL died at 4:35 pm, Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, IL.

She was born March 14, 1923 in Monmouth, IL the daughter of Emmett Ray and Ruth (Crandall) Peterson. She was raised and educated in Monmouth graduating from Monmouth High School.

Lois married Edward A. Appleby at the Fairview Center United Methodist Church on August 7, 1943 and he died August 9, 2015.

She was a homemaker.

Lois was a member of the Fairview Center United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge, traveling, handicrafts, and attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s many activities.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jo Anna (Samuel) Cline of Avon Park, FL and Susan (Mike) Briggs of Monmouth, IL; two grandsons, Mike (Marianne) Briggs of Burlington, IA and Randy (Tracie) Briggs of Monmouth; three grandchildren, Matthew Briggs and Lauren Briggs of Burlington, IA and Emmie Briggs of Monmouth; one brother, Lee Peterson of Clemmons, NC; one sister, Greta Ryner of Monmouth, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, two brothers, Ray Peterson and Max Peterson; five sisters, Kathryn Edwards, Leona Sprout, Faye Daily, Maxine Martin and Helen Bruyn.

Cremation rites have been accorded, no services or visitation is planned at this time. A graveside committal service will be in Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood, at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Lois M. Appleby Memorial Fund to be used at Hawthorne Inn Assisted Living Facility, Galesburg, IL.
