Laverne G. Weidler

Laverne G. Weidler, 86, of Farmer City, IL, passed away at 8:35 p.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Mendota Lutheran Home, Mendota, IL.

He was born on June 16, 1931, in Mt. Olive, IL, the son of Elmer and Mary (Boston) Weidler. Laverne was raised and educated in Mt. Olive and graduated from Mt. Olive High School. He then earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Illinois State University, and later his Master’s Degree at Oregon State University.

Laverne married Wilma Jean Williams on January 24, 1953 in Monmouth, IL. She preceded him in death on March 28, 2014.

Laverne spent his entire career as a teacher of the sciences, retiring in 1999. Upon retirement he devoted more time to his favorite hobby of buying and the resale of books. Laverne loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving Laverne are his children, Sue (Jack) Kusek of Spring Valley, IL, Cathy (Kelly) Riggs of Peoria, IL, Michael (Carol) Weidler of Springfield, IL, Verne Weidler, and Thomas Weidler. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one brother, Don Weidler of Smyna, GA, and one sister, Rosalie (Cliff) Ohlson of Godfrey, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and infant son, James Weidler.
