Larry E. Nickols, 76, of Monmouth died at 10:10 A.M. Friday, September 20, 2013 at his home.

He was born August 23, 1937 in Monmouth the son of Orve R. Nickols and Martha (Carnes) Nickols-VanderHyden. He was raised and educated in Monmouth and attended Monmouth Schools. He later served with the United States Air Force.

Larry married Marilyn Greenstreet in Monmouth on March 29, 1957 and she survives.

Larry wore many hats during his work life from shopkeeper to veterinarian's assistant to his retirement as a professional OTR driver for Munson Transportation.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Monmouth where he served as Deacon and Trustee, as well as volunteering in other capacities.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Mitchell (Heide) Nickols of West Burlington, IA, Lane (Karen) Nickols of Sand Creek, MI, Martin Nickols of Monmouth; daughter, Michelle (Charlie) Dutton of Kirkwood; 3 sisters, Patricia Hackspacher of Monmouth, Debbie Smith and Vicky Shelton both of Texas; 4 brothers, Steve VanderHayden of Monmouth, Mike VanderHayden of the Quad Cities, Lloyd Nickols and Gary Nickols both of Texas; 9 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has been accorded. Memorial services will be 11: A.M. Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the First Christian Church, Monmouth with Rev. James Epperson officiating. A private family committal at Warren County Memorial Park will take place later. Friends may call Tuesday after 3:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church, Monmouth where his family will be present from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Monmouth or Hospice Compassus. Arrangements by McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, 309-734-6008.
