Karen D. Tierney

Karen D. Tierney, 71, of Kirkwood, IL, died at 4:37 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.

She was born on June 26, 1945 in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Roy and Clela (Icenogle) Cassiday. Karen was raised and educated in Kirkwood and graduated from Yorkwood High School in 1963.

Karen married Mike Tierney on September 10, 1966 at Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, he survives.

Karen assisted with the family farm for many years. She also worked at County Market in Monmouth for 10 years until retiring. Karen was an active member of the Warren County YMCA, she enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, cooking, baking, and was known for her pies. Most of all, Karen loved to spend time with her grandchildren, who knew her as “Pooh”. Karen was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth.

Karen is survived by her husband, Mike Tierney of Kirkwood, IL, her daughter; Nancy (Patrick) McGrail of El Paso, TX, her son; John (Amelia) Tierney of Cameron, IL, and her grandchildren; Patrick, Hollis, Sean, Cassiday, Maguinlee, and Rhylen. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Cal Cassiday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Church, Monmouth. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Monmouth. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2017, with a Rosary Service at 3:30 p.m. at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Memorials can be made to Immaculate Conception Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
