John D. Nichols, 71, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 2:28 a.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017 at his home.
He was born on April 30, 1946 in Muscatine, IA, the son of Gordon Dwight and Lois June (Eaton) Nichols. John was raised and educated in Burlington, IA.
John first worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, IA. He then worked at Farmland Foods in Monmouth for over 20 years as a meat cutter before retiring. John was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and his pet cats.
Surviving John are his siblings; Karen (Gene) Sparrow of Monmouth, Donna (Dan ) Hallengren of Monmouth, Allena Wilson of Monmouth, Gordon Nichols of Monmouth, Harry Nichols of Terre Haute, IN, and Mary Green of Monmouth. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters; June Elliott, Martha Bragd, Victoria Nichols, and one brother; Bill Nichols.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2017 at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials can be made to the John Nichols Memorial Fund. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge are of the arrangements.
