John R. Adair, 71, of Kirkwood, passed away at 12:02 p.m., Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Ill. John Richard Adair was born April 14, 1943 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of W.C. (Bud) and Mildred (McConnell) Adair. John lived in Henderson County his entire life. After he graduated from Union High School in 1961 he enlisted in the Iowa Reserves. On February 11, 1968 he married Joyce Ann Dixon in Biggsville, Illinois. He farmed the family farm that has been in the family for four generations, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Rozetta Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Henderson County Fair Board and was involved in the Bi-County Cattleman's Association. John was an avid woodworker. He is survived by his wife, Joyce A. Adair of Kirkwood, daughter, Johanna and husband Dan Defenbaugh of Kirkwood. John is survived by a grandson, Nathan Defenbaugh and a granddaughter, Ella Marie Defenbaugh of Kirkwood. He is also survived by his father, W.C. (Bud) Adair of Kirkwood, two sisters Mary and husband John H. Walters of Monmouth and Becky and husband Larry Dowell of Stronghurst, an aunt, Helen Hays of Monmouth, a sister-in-law, Linda Adair of Monmouth and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, brother, aunt, grandparents, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Rozetta Baptist Church in Rozetta. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Rozetta Baptist Church where his family will be present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. to receive friends. Memorials can be made to the Rozetta Baptist Church or the Tri-County Cattleman's Association Scholarship Fund.
