Joan L. Gittings, 80, of Stronghurst, IL passed away at 3:01 pm, Friday, August 28, 2020 at the Mercer Manor Rehabilitation Center, Aledo, IL.
Joan was born July 7, 1940 in Moline, IL the daughter of Virgil L. and Mildred (Johnson) Gordon. She was raised and educated in the Joy and Seaton areas before moving to the Biggsville area where she graduated from Biggsville High School in 1958.
Joan married John Gittings on December 20, 1959 at the Biggsville Methodist Church, Biggsville, IL and he survives.
She was a homemaker and farm wife. She worked on the processing line at ConAgra in Milan, MO for a time. She was also self employed as a small business owner. She owned and operated Joan’s Primitive Crafts based in Green City, MO and later Stronghurst, IL.
She was a former member of the Biggsville Methodist Church. She enjoyed needlework, crafts, reading (Nancy Drew books), flower gardening, sewing, spending time with her family and watching Tiger play golf.
Survivors include her husband, John Gittings of Stronghurst; her children, Shari (Russ) Campbell of Little York, IL; Darrell Gittings of Stronghurst, IL, Brian (Jody) Gittings of Milan, MO and Jeff Gittings of Macon, MO; 8 grandchildren, Hillary, Cassie, J.C., Dayne, Ruby, Cameron, Natalie and Gabriel; 3 step-grandchildren, Paige, Tyler and Ryley; 5 great grandchildren, Clyde, Callahan, Sky, Sage and Myles; one brother, Paul (Joyce) Gordon of Ft. Myers, Fl; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Gene Gordon.
Public graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at the Oquawka Cemetery, Oquawka, IL. No public visitation is planned. Memorials may be given to the Henderson County Fair Association. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
