Jim Stevenson

Jim Stevenson, 77, of Alexis, IL, passed away at 11:44 p.m., January 30, 2017 at his home.

He was born on July 2, 1939 in Hillsboro, IA, the son of Gilbert and Dorothy (Steepleton) Stevenson. Jim graduated from Barber College in Cedar Rapids, IA. He served in the United States Navy from 1957-1960.

Jim married Jerilynn Dooley on April 7, 1962 in Oquawka, IL, she survives.

Jim was a self-employed barber in Alexis for 52 years, working until very recently. He also worked some construction and did concrete work with his son Darren. Jim enjoyed refurbishing antique barber chairs from all over the country.

Surviving Jim is his wife, Jerilynn Stevenson of Alexis, one son, Darren Stevenson of Galesburg, IL, his grandchildren; Hayley Stevenson of St. Petersburg, FL, Asa Stevenson of Pleasant View, TN, and Alex Stevenson of Pleasant View, TN. Also surviving is one brother, Terry (Peg) Stevenson of Galesburg, IL, two sisters; Vivian (John) McDermet of Gilson, IL, Sue Severns of Abingdon, IL, sister-in-law, Barb Stevenson of Galesburg, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jamie Stevenson, one brother, Jack Stevenson, and one brother-in-law, Rod Severns.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Alexis United Presbyterian Church, Alexis. Interment will be in Alexis Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Alexis Fieldhouse, Alexis. Memorials can be made to the Alexis United Presbyterian Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
