Jerry L. Stubbs, 72, of Oquawka, IL passed away at 1:31 pm, Sunday, October 17, 2021 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, West Burlington, IA.
Jerry was born March 12, 1949 in Monmouth, IL the son of Leslie H. “Sport” & Dorothy K. (Dillon) Stubbs. He was raised in educated in Henderson County, attending Rozetta and Biggsville schools, graduating from Union High School in 1967.
Jerry married Janet Thompson at the Rozetta Baptist Church on June 4, 1972 and she survives.
He first worked at Cannon Bronze in Kiethsburg, IL for a time. Jerry later farmed on the family farm near Rozetta before moving to Texas in 1982. While in Texas he was a service clerk at a plumbing supply company for several years before retiring.
Jerry was a member of the Rozetta Baptist Church where he was baptized and married. He was a lifetime member of the Oquawka Lodge #123 AF & AM. He was also a lifetime member of the NRA.
He enjoyed Flying and general aviation, drag racing, go-cart races at the Sebastian Racetrack in Gladstone along with racing and building sprint cars at the Burlington Raceway 34, Burlington, IA. He also enjoyed duck hunting, any outdoor activities and being on the farm. He was active in family genealogy.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Stubbs of Oquawka, IL; his sons, Michael (Georgia) Stubbs of Moline, IL and Richard (Joni) Stubbs of Oquawka, IL; 5 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; 1 sister, Kathryn (Donald) Yadon of Rock Island, IL; his mother-in-law, Carol Thompson of Oquawka, IL; brother-in-law, Mel Lynch of Monmouth, IL several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Justin Stubbs; his sister, Sandra Smith-Lynch and his brother-in-law, Ora Kent-Smith.
Masonic Services followed by the funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm., Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the Rozetta Baptist Church. Interment will take place at the Oquawka Cemetery, Oquawka, IL. Visitation will be from 11:00-1:00 at the church. Memorials may be given to the Jerry L. Stubbs Memorial Fund.
