Jerry L. Kage, 73, of Carman, IL passed away at 1:00 am, Friday, April 17, 2020 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.
Jerry was born June 11, 1946 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Walter and Edna (Morehead) Kage. He was raised and educated in Oquawka, IL, graduating in the first graduating class from Union High School, Biggsville, IL in 1964.
Jerry served with the United States Air Force from 1964-1968 stationed in Vietnam for 2 years. While in the Air Force he also cross trained with the Seabees.
Jerry married Barbara Silveus at the South Henderson Church, Biggsville on September 26, 1999 and she survives.
In his younger years he was a jack of all trades, masonry, building houses and barns, digging wells just as examples. Following his return home from service he later worked in the maintenance departments at Gale Products and OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center both in Galesburg and finally Vista Bakery in Burlington, IA.
He was a member of the Burlington VFW. He was a lifetime member and sponsor of the Lomax Ducks Unlimited. He was a lifetime outdoors sportsman enjoying fishing and especially duck hunting. His favorite time was at the cabin and being outdoors. He also loved tinkering and fixing things in his garage.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Silveus- Kage of Carman IL; son David Kage of Knoxville, IL; his 2 daughters, Dawn (Bob) Hutson of Pekin, IL and Brenda Kage of Galesburg, IL; 2 step-children, Michael (Vicki) Crawford of Georgetown, KY, and Heather (Tim) Jones of Braidwood, IL; 9 grandchildren, Lilah & Rowan Kage, Kris Hutson, Logan Smith, Katie Smith, Korri Crawford, Alexandria Reynolds, Brody Haynes and Kilene Chapin; 13 great grandchildren; 1 niece and 1 nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Jack Kage and infant brother Lloyd Kage; 1 sister, Shirley Kage-Sabins.
Graveside Services with Military Honors will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2020 will take place at South Henderson Cemetery, Biggsville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Jerry L. Kage Memorial Fund. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
