James A. Underwood, 63, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 1:40 am, Friday, November 24, 2023 at his home.

James was born on January 6, 1960 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Davey Lee and Elizabeth Irene (Yocum) Underwood. He was raised and educated in Monmouth.

He married Debra Raymond on March 12, 1977 in Monmouth, IL; she survives.

James was an over the road truck driver for over 40 years until his retirement in 2023.  He was a die hard Alabama Crimson Tide fan.  James enjoyed fishing, building and racing derby cars.  He especially liked razzing back and forth with his grandson, Carter, about sports.  Most of All, James liked to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  He enjoyed volunteering for many years helping prepare the Community Thanksgiving Meal.

Surviving James is his wife, Debra Underwood of Monmouth, IL; two sons, James A. (Tina) Underwood of Pekin, IL, David M. (Kristi) Underwood of Oklahoma; two daughters, Megan (Jesse) Hare of Alexis, IL, Leona (John Fishel) Underwood of Monmouth, IL; ten grandsons; four granddaughters; and one great grandson.  Also surviving are several siblings, and special family member, Tony & Rosemary Martin of Monmouth, IL.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Kevin Underwood.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  A private family service will be held at a later date. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.  Memorials can be made to the James Underwood Memorial Fund and can be sent to the funeral home.
