James J. Schreck

James J. Schreck, 80, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 3:50 P.M. Sunday, December 25, 2016 at the Roseville Rehabilitation and Care Center, Roseville, IL.

He was born May 24, 1936 in Macomb, IL the son of Carl Benjamin and F. Helen (St. Ledger) Schreck. He was raised and educated in the Greenbush area, graduating from Avon High School.

Jim married Shirley Clark on December 1, 1956 in Oelwein, Iowa and she survives.

Jim began serving with the Illinois National Guard in 1954 until 1996. His last 24 years from 1972-1996 he served full time obtaining the rank of Warrant Officer, W-4.

Jim also worked as a carpenter for Lee Vail from 1953-1958 and John Sheridan from 1958- 1972.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Monmouth, Monmouth Knights of Columbus, a lifetime Monmouth American Legion Post #136 and was a member of the Honor Squad for the last 9 years, the NRA, and he was a lifetime member of the Military Officers Association.

Jim enjoyed golfing, camping, woodworking, farming and carpentry work. He loved spending time with his family, going to his grandchildren’s many school and athletic events along with traveling when the opportunity arose. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Schreck of Monmouth; 5 children, Michael Schreck, Joseph (Jayne) Schreck, Jean (Jeff) Haase and Timothy (Brenda) Schreck all of Monmouth and Judy (Eric) Hart of Roseville; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother, John (Janet) Schreck of Roseville; sisters, Mary Ann Liggett of Las Vegas, NV and Eileen (Ed) Roe of Monmouth; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Schreck; infant sister, Theresa Schreck and brother in law, Jerry Liggett.
