James A. Montroy, Sr., 83, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 5:03 a.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at his home.
He was born on May 3, 1934 in Gladstone Township, IL to Arthur “Art” Benjamin and Clara Lucille (Renner) Montroy. He was raised and educated in Henderson County.
On November 14, 1993 James married Patricia (Hank) Schmidt in Roseville, IL and she survives.
James owned many businesses over the years including Montroy Painting & Sandblasting, Midwest Cleaners & Applicators and Freedom Valley Contractors—all in Monmouth, IL.
He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local # 649 for 35 years. James was a family man; he loved spending time with his family. In his free time he also enjoyed operating heavy equipment, finding a great deal, traveling & camping in his R.V. His favorite destinations were the Lake of the Ozarks and spending many winters in Texas.
Surviving include his wife, Patricia Montroy, of Monmouth, his children James A. (Teresa) Montroy, Jr of Monmouth, IL; Deb (Rod) Michael of Glidden, IA; James Ivan “Ike” (Sherry) Montroy of Durand, WI; Kelly (Sean) McKee of Monmouth, IL; Gregory W. (JoAnn) Schmidt of LaPorte City, IA and Lisa (Scott) Davidson of Hilliard, OH; 16 grandchildren, Debbie Jo (Curtis) Stufflebeam, Billie Jo Montroy, Casey (Rebecca) Montroy, Jayme (Chrystal) Montroy, Stacie (Eric) Daily, Chance (Casey) Linz, Zachary Linz, Adriana Linz, Mason Montroy, Aryssia Montroy, Tristan Montroy, Cameron Montroy, Greyson McKee, Maddie McKee, Steven (Sarah) Schmidt and Jake Davidson; 15 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, sister, Garnett Pirtle of Oquawka, IL; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Montroy of McRae, AR. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Becky Linz; 2 grandchildren, Jordan Montroy and Lauren Schmidt; his brothers, Tom and Chuck Montroy, and one sister, Doris Keever.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at McGuire and Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Harbor Light Hospice.
