James C. "Jim" Halcomb, 76, of Monmouth passed away peacefully with his family at his side at 4:59 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2015 at Methodist Hospital, Peoria. He was born June 24, 1938 in Macomb, IL the son of Jesse C. and Nellie L. (Williams) Halcomb. He was raised and educated in Blandinsville, IL, graduating from Blandinsville High School in 1956. Jim married Ann Blackledge in Blandinsville, IL on July 24, 1960 and she survives. Jim started out as a route salesman in and around Macomb for Peter Pan Bread and later for Macomb Dairy. He moved his family to Monmouth in 1964 where he worked as Standard Oil agent in the petroleum business and then later worked for Keisters. In 1984 Jim went to work for M & B Oil and later purchased the business, forming Halcomb Oil Company in 1986. He retired in 2007. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth, the Monmouth Masonic Lodge and Gibson Woods Golf Course. Jim enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball for the Italian Village in the Quad City Metro League. Jim served as the Warren County Prime Beef Festival President in 1997. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playng in the annual Roger Maris Celebrity Golf Tournament in Fargo, ND with Ed Sprinkle and Moose Skowron. He loved the Green Bay Packers and was very proud to be a shareholder. Jim loved spending time with his family and loved going to the many events of his children and grandchildren. He was extremely loving to his family and friends and never knew a stranger. Jim loved music and singing and was well known for his one-liners, as well as his infectious laugh. Survivors include his wife: five children, Jimmy (Tammy) Halcomb of Kirkwood, Gina (Dean) Crandall of Danville, IL, Jared (Lynn) Halcomb, Jevanie (Matt) Gillen and Jennifer (Sean Adair) Halcomb all of Monmouth; twelve grandchildren, Jake Halcomb, Jessica Way, Morgan Crandall, Sarah Crandall, John Crandall, Logan Ewing, Riley Ewing, Kennedy Halcomb, Connor Gillen, Sam Gillen, Carly Gillen and Mattison Gillen; four great grandchildren, Andrew Way, Carmyn Way, Carter Halcomb, and Brayden Halcomb; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sherry Vawter. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth, Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park. Friends may call Friday evening from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth where his family will be present. Memorials can be made to St. Judes' Children's Hosptial or First United Methodist Church in Monmouth.
