Howard G. Miller

Howard Glenn Miller died peacefully on Feb. 7, 2017, surrounded by family and friends at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galesburg. He was 97.

Born on July 13, 1919, to Ernest and Pearl E. (McIntyre) Miller, Howard was a lifelong Monmouth resident. He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1937. Howard married the love of his life, Regena Lee Howard, on Oct. 10, 1940. She predeceased him on Feb. 11, 2011, after nearly 71 years of marriage.

Howard farmed south of Monmouth for many years, worked in the farm machinery implement business, and managed a warehouse at Munson Trucking while operating a very successful antique furniture repair and restoration business in his beloved shop on South First Street. He was a true master craftsman whose care and creativity brought forth the natural beauty of every piece of furniture he touched. Never one to slow down, Howard delivered his last piece of furniture at the age of 92.

Howard was a voracious reader with an insatiable appetite for newspapers and magazines. He was a sweet, kind and gentle man of great integrity who had an unwavering devotion to his friends and family. He will be deeply, deeply missed.

Survivors include his son, Gary H. Miller (Mary Jo Hunter) of St. Louis; his daughter, Rhonda K. Miller (Jennifer L. Clarke) of Lewisburg, Pa.; his grandchildren: Sara Edwards Asuncion (Anthony) of Bethesda, Md.; Jeffery Miller (Jodi) of Columbia, Il.; Amanda Driol (Daniel) of St. Louis; and Mark Edwards (Megan) of Westport, Ct.; great-grandchildren: Michael and Evan Asuncion; Hudson and Addison Miller; Mason Driol; and Jack, Eliza, and Finn Edwards. He is also survived by dear friends, Ron Roll, Lois Cook, and Kathy Lowe-Arthur. In addition to his wife, Howard was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Linda J. Edwards.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, February 10, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Monmouth.
