Hattie Mae Wallace

Hattie Mae Wallace, 86, of Monmouth, passed away at 8:00 a.m., Sunday, May 29, 2016 at her home.

She was born on July 1, 1929 in Monmouth, the daughter of Ed and Pauline (Young) Patterson. Hattie was raised and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1947.

Hattie married Thearn J. Wallace on August 31, 1952 in Monmouth. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2006.

Hattie first worked at Western Stoneware in Monmouth. She later worked for Dr. Chamberlin and Dr. Ambrose for 31 years as their secretary and receptionist. Hattie was a member of St. James AME Church in Monmouth where she served as Steward, Treasurer, and Usher Board. She was also a member of the Mary McLeod Bethune Club. Hattie enjoyed plants, word finds, and daytime soap operas.

Surviving Hattie is her brother Harry (Molly) Patterson of Atlanta, Ga., four sisters; Theresa (James) Russell of Monmouth, Connie Patterson of Galesburg, IL, Sharon Patterson of Monmouth and Carole (Gabriel) Randolph of Monmouth. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews, and special great nephew Gari Patterson of Monmouth, who Thearn and Hattie raised, and good neighbor Bonnie Johnston of Monmouth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and five brothers.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 4, 2016 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials can be made to the Hattie Wallace Memorial Fund or St. James AME Church in Monmouth.
