Greg E. Campbell

February 12, 1956 — August 18, 2024

Little York

Greg E. Campbell, 68, of Little York, IL, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024, surrounded by his family and friends at OSF Holy Family in Monmouth, Illinois after a courageous battle against cancer and its side effects.

Born February 12, 1956, in Monmouth Hospital to Clyde E and Helen L (Kinney) Campbell, Greg was raised on the family farm in the Little York area. He was the youngest of four children. Greg graduated from Yorkwood High School in 1974 and recently enjoyed his class 50th reunion this summer. After graduation, he attended the University of Illinois where he majored in agriculture and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Friends from Illinois and AGR were lifelong friends as well as his love of Illini sports, especially Illini basketball.

In 1977, Greg married Debra Muller and made their home on the farm outside of Little York. His pride and joy, daughter Krystal and son Scott were born in 1978 and 1980 respectively. They later divorced.

In 2001, Greg married Sue VanFleet. They lived on the farm and watched their grandchildren’s activities. They later divorced.

Farming was Greg’s passion. He worked hard to help expand the family operation with his parents and continued the tradition with his own two children. They formed GKS Campbell Farms in 2011 to continue the family’s farming tradition. He loved to grow corn and as his children often said, “he can really grow corn”. Greg also enjoyed livestock and especially the cattle. He served on the Yorkwood District School Board for over 15 years. Greg was also a member of the Tri-County Cattlemen, Little York Fire Department, Little York Lions Club and Little Cedar Church.

While farming was his passion, his family was his love. Krystal, Scott, their spouses and his wonderful grandchildren were his pride and joy. Watching his grandchildren show cattle or pigs, play whatever sport they were in, or the music program Kate was performing in always was a priority for him. Nick Boss and his family held a special place in Greg’s heart as well.

Helping at the Farm Progress Show each year was one of his favorite activities! He made new friends at both the Decatur and Boone locations while running around in the Show designated “FIL” ATV whether it was to help put up signs, deliver materials to exhibitors or haul visitors around. It was his idea of 10 days of vacation!

Survivors include his daughter, Krystal (Matt) Jungmann, Little York; son, Scott (Lisa) Campbell, Little York; grandchildren Jack, Luke and Kate Jungmann, Little York and Logan, Bryce and Zachary Campbell, Little York; sister, Barbara (Steve) Determan, Early, Iowa and brother, Russell (Shari), Little York; nephews and nieces, Andy Determan, Dan Determan, Kourtney Determan, Hillary Rabe, Cassie Kingsford, and JC Campbell, aunt Gladys (Jim) Free and an army of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Helen Campbell and brother, Johnny.
