Glennis Irene Eyler

Glennis Irene Eyler, 86, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 1:05 a.m., Thursday, August 21, 2014 at her home after a brief illness. She was born October 7, 1927, near North Henderson, Illinois, to Arthur and Mabel Blick Carlson. Glennis graduated from Kirkwood High School with the class of 1945 and worked for Bankers Life Company in Monmouth until she met and married her husband, John Richard (Dick) Eyler. They were married in her parents' country home near Larchland on February 22, 1949. He preceded her in death on August 27, 1990. Glennis was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth, where she served on many committees. For the last several years, she was chairwoman of the Pie Committee for the Prime Beef Festival First Lutheran Church food tent. She also was an American Red Cross Blood Mobile volunteer for 15 years, in addition to serving for more than 30 years for the Community Memorial Hospital and OSF Holy Family Medical Center Auxiliary, serving as Chairman of the Gift Shop for many of those years. On the farm, Glennis could most often be found in her garden, picking strawberries and the many vegetables she grew, and later canning and freezing them for her family. She was a fabulous cook. One of her favorite evening and winter pastimes was her needlework, creating beautiful afghans and doilies which she generously shared with her children and grandchildren. Glennis loved to play cards, belonging to two canasta clubs and a pitch club. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. What she loved most was spending time with her family. Glennis is survived by her four children Ð Janice (Chip) Algren of Monmouth; Diane (Stan) Carlson of Alexis; Randy (Teresa) Eyler of Cameron; and Gary (Judy) Eyler of rural Monmouth. She leaves seven grandchildren Ð Matthew Carlson of Hillside, Illinois; Jared Algren of Monmouth, Illinois; Travis Algren of Cincinnati, Ohio; Jenny Eyler of Cameron, Illinois; Katy Carlson of Knoxville, Illinois; Dr. Stephen Eyler of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Dr. Elizabeth Eyler of Monmouth, Illinois. She is survived also by two great granddaughters, Ava Carlson and Sadie Eyler, and one brother, Lester Carlson of Oneida, Illinois She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant grandchildren, Brian and Amy Carlson, and her brothers, Dale Carlson, and Gerald Carlson. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 25, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park. Friends may call after 12:00 noon, Sunday, August 24, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, where her family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Memorials may be left to First Lutheran Church in Monmouth, Illinois.
