George C. “Clay” Vanskike Jr., 63 of Monmouth, IL passed away at 5:55 am, Friday, May 25, 2018 the University of Illinois Hospital, Chicago, IL.
Clay was born February 11, 1955 in Monmouth, IL the son of George C. Sr. and Dolly Ann (Johnson) Vanskike. He was raised and educated in Monmouth attending Monmouth High School and later Carl Sandburg College where he studied Auto Mechanics.
Clay married Donna Isherwood on July 2, 1973 in Monmouth and she survives.
Clay worked as a forklift driver for CJ Munson in Monmouth for 13 years before retiring in 2010. He earlier worked for Maytag, Equipco and was a truck driver.
He enjoyed going to auctions, Junking, fishing, playing slots, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He never knew a stranger. Clay’s final gift was being an organ donor.
Survivors include his wife; 3 children, George C. (Stacy Todd) Vanskike, III of Millersburg, IL, Wendy (Mark) Sargeant and Dustin (Stacy) Vanskike both of Monmouth; 9 grandchildren, Kayli (Justin Bewley) Vanskike, Devon Tate, Tyler Vanskike, Madison Vanskike, Hannah Vanskike, Zoe Cook, Maddie Vanskike, Dylan Vanskike and Zaydin Sargeant all of Monmouth; special great grandson, Owen Bewley of Monmouth. Also surviving are his special kids, Devanie Kidwell, Bart Kidwell, Justin Wallace, Leighton Bird all of Monmouth; one brother, Steven (Julie) Vanskike of Berwick, IL; two sisters, Debra Lambert of Monmouth, Michelle (Vic) Laws of Abingdon, IL; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law, Raymond Lambert.
Cremation has been accorded. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, June 1, 2018 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Memorials can be made to the George C. “Clay” Vanskike Memorial Fund.
