Florence R. Carver, 89, of Little York, IL died at 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 north of Monmouth, IL. She was born March 21, 1926 in Little York, IL the daughter of William Ira and Mary Lula (Campbell) Nicol. She was raised and educated in Little York, graduating from Little York High School in 1944. Florence would say that she lived all her 89 years within 1 A½ miles of where she was born. Florence married Howard M. Carver in Little York on April 6, 1947 and he died November 22, 2011. Florence was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. For many years she was a contributor for the Little York News in both the Monmouth Review Atlas and the Aledo Time-Record. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and reading. She was a very good cook and an even better baker. She was a member of the former Little York United Methodist Church. She currently attended the Little Cedar Church in Little York. She was a member and longtime volunteer for the OSF Holy Family Medical Center Auxiliary and the Little York Farmerettes. Florence was always available and willing to lend a helping hand and was a great volunteer. Survivors include her sons, Bruce (Lynn) Carver of Holly Springs, N.C. and Jeff (Diane) Carver of Little York; granddaughter, Christy Carver and great grandson, Jasper-Jax Carver both of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; step-grandchildren, Zach Hull, Maggie (Nate) Wallace; step-great grandchildren, Jalyn & Paxson Wallace all of Galesburg; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers, William Nicol and Richard Nicol; and her sister, Mary Jean Tharp. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Little Cedar Church with Pastor David Dutton officiating. Burial will be in cedar Creek Cemetery, Little York. Friends may call Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth where her family will be present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the OSF Holy Family Medical Center Auxiliary or the Little Cedar Church.
