Elynore L. King, 94, of Monmouth, passed away at 7:40 p.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Legacy Estates in Monmouth.
She was born on February 8, 1921 in Knox County, IL, the daughter of Verne F. and Ednah (Alexander) Barnes. Elynore was raised and educated in Monmouth, and graduated from Monmouth High School. She then attended Whitworth Jr. College in Brookhaven, MS. Elynore later continued her education at Monmouth and Eureka Colleges.
Elynore married Vincent Lloyd King on April 26, 1943 in Maysville, KY; he preceded her in death in 1972.
Once returning to Monmouth, Elynore and her husband ran a truck farm and provided produce to Barnes Grocery Store. She also worked for a time at Formfit and Smolers. Elynore served as the Warren County Clerk for 12 years. While in Monmouth she was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served the American Legion Auxiliary. Faith was central in her life and she taught her family the importance of living and serving Christ. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Monmouth while living there and upon retiring to Sun City, AZ in 1991 she was an active member in the First Christian Church of Sun City. There she served Ruth Circle, Dorcas Society and Women's Christian Missions. Elynore loved to travel, and she traveled all over the world. She was also an avid animal lover. Elynore was loved by her family, friends, co-workers, and health care workers for her humor, compassion, lively spirit, and unconditional love.
She is survived by her three children; Billee (Eugene) Conard of Raleigh, NC, Debra (Leroy) Edwards of Monmouth, and Kenneth (Cathy) King of Waukegan, IL. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elynore was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Bud Barnes, one grandson, and her beloved pets; Buffie and Cracker.
A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2015 at Gerlaw Christian Church. Her family will be present to receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials can be made to Flashes of Hope, www.flashofhope.org or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
