Ellery Jay Queen, Sr.

Ellery Jay Queen, Sr., 62, of Swedona Township, IL, passed away at 9:55 p.m., Thursday, December 16, 2021in his home.

He was born July 28, 1959 in Monmouth, IL, the son of James and Linda (Jones) Queen. He was raised and educated in the Monmouth area graduating from Yorkwood High School in 1978. After high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps but was medically discharged while in boot camp. He was still a die-hard Marine at heart.

Ellery married Kathleen Kilgore in 1980 and together they had one son, Ellery Jay Queen, Jr. He later married Barbara Nowell on July 26, 2008 in Moline, IL and she survives.

He worked in the transportation industry as a truck driver and later driver supervisor for TPC and PFG Companies. He was a proud volunteer firefighter for the Mokena, IL fire department. He was also an ordained minister.

Ellery loved to fish, work in the garden, travel and was a lover of animals. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs and Michigan Wolverines fan.

Surviving Ellery is his wife, Barbara; one son, Ellery Jay (Katy) Queen, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; 6 grandchildren, Alyssa, Casten, Maizie, Lincoln, Hunter and Veronica; his mother, Linda Queen of Macomb, IL;3 siblings, Andy (Crystal) Queen of Galesburg, IL, Arletha Queen of Galesburg and Mark (Christie) Queen of Davenport, IA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Clifford Queen and first wife Kathleen Queen.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home in Monmouth. Cremation will take place following the service. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Ellery Jay Queen, Sr. Memorial Fund.
